Wow this year has really flown by!   Once again it’s the season for giving and while everyone is preparing for company, and starting to shop. I'm revisiting my signature drink recipes for the holidays.   Had to blow the dust off these babies!   Am I a master behind the bar?  Without question, but it seems that every year about this time I'm pouring more top shelf brandy or cognac, and while I’m at it creating some concoction requested by Joe Blow.  It never amazes me how many people consider themselves a mixology connoisseur, however have never worked behind the bar or attended Bartending School.  Be that as it may, I am a professional at what I do, so I entertain all requests no matter how bizarre I think they may be!   Nevertheless, I can only assume it's because of the holiday season and weather. And boy does the cold weather boost the requests for dark liquor, which I personally think brings out the party in people!   Never a dull night around the holidays that's for sure, and as a bartender you have to love it…here are a couple of reasons why.

Number 1 - If you treat a patron right he/she will return the favor by giving thanks.  I don't know if it's the whole giving thing, but you tend to see less of the cheapskates during the holiday season.

Number 2 - It always seems that after holiday get togethers everyone (who is of age) piles into the car and heads to the nearest bar or night club.  There's nothing better than a big party of people who just want to drink and cut loose!

Number 3 - The Holiday spirit.  What a beautiful thing it is!  I always sell more around this time of year but what's even better is the bar hospitality!  People are friendly, courteous and polite, and even downright chatty around this time of year.  Me being a people person I revel in it!

On Thanksgiving night I found myself bartending at one of Atlanta’s hottest nightclubs and they are hosting a live remote from one of Atlanta’s most popular radio stations.  How ingenious is that right?  I was happy to take home an even bigger purse than last year, and not just because of the reasons I listed above, but I mean let’s think about it...how many times are you really searching for a place to party and you turn on the radio and hear the DJ announcing “We are at Club ***!  Come on out, the line is already wrapped around the building!”  Thirty minutes later you and the troops are on your way to the club!  I think this marketing strategy will doubtlessly bring even more patrons out to the club than an already busy holiday season night.

Either marketing tool the clubs or bar chooses to use it all comes down to if they get the numbers they anticipate for such a busy night. In regards to myself, I believe in sharing in the holiday spirit, and no matter how bad or great of a night I may have I will be sure to share the wealth or lack their of with those less fortunate! That’s what the holidays are about!

HAPPY MIXING!
